Using a skip bin – some hints and tips

Using a skip bin is easy, but a few tips will help you make the most out of your hire.

Always think about where you want the skip bin to be placed. Choose a spot that is close to your source of rubbish so that you don’t have to carry junk over a great distance.

Always choose a spot that is far away from overhanging trees or wires. This is important for the delivery truck.

When packing your skip with waste, remember that you shouldn’t just throw things in randomly. You should break apart any bulky items, such as furniture, and lay them flat on the base of the skip bin.

This will ensure you get the most out of the available space and don’t create air pockets that could otherwise be filled.

If you have lighter items that could blow away, pin them down with heavier things.

The good news is that if you have a lot of varied rubbish, you can book a mixed waste skip bin or a general waste skip bin. They’re both excellent choices for moving house or clearing a property.

The other types of skip bins are good for building projects and landscaping.

Can I put anything in the skip bin I ordered?

Not just anything, no. You can put the most common waste types into your skip bin, but you can’t put toxic or unstable things in there.

For example, we don’t allow asbestos in our skip bins. That must be dealt with by professional asbestos removal specialists.

Similarly, oil, paint, batteries and gas canisters may not go into a skip bin. We can deal with LPG bottles for an extra fee but you’ll need to let us know in advance.

If you have an old mattress, you can put it in a skip, but only if you have first taken it apart and removed the springs. Otherwise, you will incur additional charges, as someone at the dump must take the mattress apart.

Contact the team if you have any questions about waste types or managing what you plan to put in the skip bin.

Do I need a permit for a skip bin in Acacia Gardens?

Not unless you want to place it on public land such as the road or verge outside your home or business. If you place your skip bin in your garden or on other land you own, no permit is needed.
