Skip bins and different waste types

You may wonder why we offer skip bins meant for different waste types. This is because it makes recycling much simpler.

If you have a lot of varied waste, then a general waste skip bin will be the best choice for you. In these, you can add a great many different things, such as furniture, old wallpaper, metal, glass, paper and household waste to name but a few.

Others are more specific – the green waste skip bin, for example, is perfect for landscaping projects where a lot of organic waste has built up.

Concrete skip bin

Some skip bins are designed only for building waste such as concrete or bricks

Here’s a list of the waste types each skip is designed to receive.

  • General Waste
  • Green Waste
  • Concrete/brick
  • Soil/dirt
  • Mixed waste

If you’re not sure which to book, just visit our waste types page and read up on what they are and what can and can’t go into each skip bin type.

Eco-friendly waste removal

Sustainable waste management is what we do. We don’t ever collect full skip bins and then throw them all into landfills. We sort the waste and ensure that anything recyclable is indeed, recycled.

That includes building waste, too – everything that could be recycled is always recycled.

Using a skip bin – some hints and tips

Using a skip bin is easy but there are a few tips that will help you make the most out of your hire.

Always choose a parking place for your skip that doesn’t interfere with exits and entrances.

Avoid overhanging trees and power lines – they can make it tricky for your delivery driver.

When packing your skip with waste, remember that you shouldn’t just throw things in randomly. You should break apart any bulky items such as furniture, and lay them flat on the base of the skip bin.

This will ensure you get the most out of the available space and don’t create air pockets that could otherwise be filled.

If you have lighter items that could blow away, pin them down with heavier things – we don’t want rubbish to end up in places it doesn’t belong.

But remember, if you have any questions, please get in touch. Our expert team is always happy to answer your questions.

Can I put anything in the skip bin I order?

Not just anything no. Skip bins are ideal for many waste types but some can’t be disposed of easily by our operatives. This might be due to them being toxic – like asbestos – or fire hazards like batteries.

We also do not accept paints or oils. Dry paint cans are fine, though.

If you have an old mattress, you can put it in a skip, but only if you have first taken it apart and removed the springs. Otherwise, you will incur additional charges, as someone at the dump must take the mattress apart for you.

If you have any questions about waste types or managing what you plan to put in the skip bin, contact the team.

Do I need a permit for a skip bin in Glenwood?

Not unless you want to place it on public land such as the road or verge outside your home or business. If you place your skip bin in your garden or on other land you own, no permit is needed.
